Gingerbread Man

We read and discussed the book "The Gingerbread Man" this week. We made character sticks and had fun retelling the story with a partner! We talked about the setting, sequence of events, characters and problem and solution. We also completed a worksheet in which the students drew what happened at the beginning, middle and end of the story.

Clouds

We talked about clouds this week and learned about the 3 main types (cirrus, cumulus and stratus). We even took a walk outside and identified the type of clouds in the sky! We enjoyed reading Tomie de Paola's "The Cloud Book" and created a KWL chart about clouds. We had been sorting objects by attribute in math and used our sorting skills to sort various pictures of clouds by what type they were.

Letters of the Week: L and T

We have been learning about 'L' and 'T' and have been practicing writing these letters. We have been introducing all of the letters that are composed of straight lines and will then teach letters made using curved lines. Today, we did an 'L' and 'T' cut-and-paste sound sort and discussed objects that start with 'L' and 'T.'

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom

I always begin the year by reading "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" and introducing/reviewing the alphabet with the kids! They had so much fun putting the alphabet letters on the coconut tree that I made! We discussed uppercase and lowercase letters and then they got to create their own coconut tree out of construction paper!
