Winter Fun!

 

Yesterday was our last day of school before winter break! We had such a fun afternoon decorating gingerbread houses and making marshmallow snowmen!

Plants

We have been studying plants this week in school! We planted bean seeds and have learned about the plant life cycle

Fall Bulletin Board

We have a new bulletin board in the hallway with a collection of work we have completed recently!

Farm Field Trip

We had a great time today at Summer's Farm! We learned about the life cycle of a pumpkin and got to pick one out to take home!

Fun with Patterns!

We are still continuing to work on patterns! We used manipulatives this week to create and extend AB, ABC, AAB and ABB patterns.

Dr Martin Luther King Jr

We have been learning about leaders in Social Studies and people important to our American political system. We discussed the contributions of MLK Jr, watched clips of his 'I Have a Dream' speech, and completed the following craft:

Patterns

We have been learning about patterns this week! I made fall-themed patterns that the students had to extend

Fruit Loop Graphing!

We sorted fruit loops by color and then graphed them according to how many of each color we had!

Clouds

 

We started learning about different types of clouds today! We observed clouds outside, discussed attributes of various clouds and graphed our favorite!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Sorting

We read 'The Button Box' in math this week and practiced the skill of sorting with various buttons. The students sorted by color, shape, size, etc.

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom!

We read the book 'Chicka Chicka Boom Boom' this week and discussed uppercase and lowercase letters. I created some centers for the kids that required them to form their names with letter tiles and to match uppercase and lowercase letters.

New School Year!

I am so excited for the start of another school year! This will be my 5th year teaching Kindergarten and I am looking for forward to meeting all of my new students!

It's hard to believe it is already the end of the year! It has been such a joy to see the kids grow and mature and become such excellent readers! They are ready for 1st Grade!! Zoo

We had a great field trip to the zoo on Friday! We wrapped up a week of talking about animal habitats and enjoyed seeing some of the animals we had studied. Thanks to all of the parents who came along!

Animal Habitats

We have been studying animal habitats this week! Here are some activities we have been doing!

Addition!

We have started learning addition facts this week and I created some great center games for the kids to play to practice adding!

The students choose 2 number cards and write the answer to the addition problem with a dry erase marker in the blank rectangle

The kids play with a partner and use a teddy bear marker/game piece and dice for the 2 games pictured above. They must answer the problem correctly to move ahead

Opposites!

We have been learning about opposites this week! We read Dr. Seuss's 'The Foot Book' and wrote and drew about 2 of the opposite words that were in the book

Earth Day!

We celebrated Earth Day today by talking about ways in which we can keep our earth clean and how we can care for it

Greater Than and Less Than

We have been learning about greater than and less than in math this week. We read a great book called, "More or Less"

I also created some new math center games/activities that focus on this concept

St. Patrick's Day!

We are doing some fun activities today in honor of St. Patrick's Day! We read a book about a leprechaun and completed a story map about it:

A visit from a fireman!

We studied community helpers a couple weeks ago and had a firefighter come in to talk to the class today! The kids loved hearing him talk about fighting fires and getting to look at all of his gear!

We have completed a lot of fun activities this week in honor of Dr. Seuss' Birthday today! We read many of his books and wrote about what book was our favorite:

Digraphs & Blends

We have been doing a lot of -th, -sh and -ch word sorts in our reading small groups. We have also begun learning about blends and have been doing a lot of activities with them!

2D & 3D Shapes

       We are beginning math units on 2D and 3D Shapes this week!

               We discussed 2D shapes and made shape robots!

Dr Seuss

In honor of the upcoming birthday of Dr. Seuss, we decorated our door to look like the cover of his book, "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish."

President's Day

I created a craft for the children to draw a picture of what they would look like if they were president and what they would do if they were president!

The students wrote things such as "I would give speeches to a lot of people" and "I would get to ride in a limo" :)

We also read books about past presidents like Abraham Lincoln as well as our current president Obama. We discussed what the president does and the importance of his job.
